After years of waiting, and performing together on various occasions as each other’s special guests, the reggaetón duo announced earlier this year their return with a world tour that would start in none other than our iconic amphitheater! Last Saturday, March 31st, “Los Líderes” of reggaetón had the Altos de Chavón cobblestones vibrating, with concert goers dancing and singing along to every song they performed!
With a full house full of energy, this was the perfect place and opportunity for the reunion of these two artists, five years after their separation. With an amazing production complete with lights, smoke, fire, and confetti, the musical repertoire that these artists offered their audience was enough to keep the audience on their feet during their performance, and the adrenaline alive in each spectator.
The show started at 10:00 pm, with the song the tour is named after, “Como antes”, which has reached more than 200 million views on YouTube since its premiere. The duo continued with some of their classics such as “Mírala bien”, “Pam Pam”, “Ahora es”, “Pegao”, “Rakata” and “Noche de Sexo”. The audience, regardless of age or nationality, sang each and every legendary song prompting Wisin and Yandel to call the amphitheater the biggest disco ever. “There’s a lot of energy here tonight. Thank you Dominican Republic,” stated Wisin visibly moved by the reunion with Yandel.
After performing together, the duo and their dancers went backstage where they changed and sang songs they had transformed into anthems during their time as solo artists. First up was Yandel, with “Encantadora”, “Explícale”, “Hay mi Dios” and “Báilame”. Following him, Wisin performed “Adrenalina”, “Escápate Conmigo”, “Duele el corazón” and “Vacaciones”. Both artists moved around the stage fluidly, engaging the public and keeping hold of the hearts and admiration of their fans.
“We have been in the music industry for many years, and to feel that you continue to support us equally or even more than before is something that we truly appreciate. Thank you all, may God bless you, “said Yandel. To end the night they came back together to with their hits “Abusadora”, “Sexy movimiento”, “Permíteme”, “Teléfono”, “Mayor que yo”, “Noche de entierro” and “Algo me gusta de ti” with which they said goodbye at 11:30 pm leaving the public begging for more!

The organizers of the annual Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic, along with executives of the event’s Title Sponsors Casa de Campo Resort & Villas and Associate Sponsors Marina Casa de Campo officially announced the 5th Anniversary 2018 edition of this prestigious tournament from April 18th to the 21st in the heart of the incredible blue marlin season that takes place offshore of Marina Casa de Campo from February to May. The marina’s meticulously kept records reveal that in 2017 a whopping total of 1,044 billfish were released (1,003 were blue marlin) in 109 boat days fished.
Given the caliber and popularity of the location many of the high profile boats that fish the Caribbean Circuit are expected this year with slip reservations at the marina at full capacity. For those who want to participate but cannot bring your boat, there are several top-notch boats available for charter with highly experienced crews (contact us for details).
The event is not only known for its fabulous blue marlin action (63 blue marlin released in 3 days at the 2017 event), but also for the fun filled activities that are scheduled on shore such as Happy Hours at the docks after fishing, the Fiesta on the night after the second day of fishing, pre-tournament activities such as the now infamous and grueling Donkey Polo match, finally culminating with the elegant Awards Banquet on the night of the third and final day of fishing.
Tournament Director Rick Alvarez, of International Billfish Tournaments, Inc., emphasized that, “Our events are particularly characterized in the Dominican Republic thus far because we actually donate part of the proceeds to reputable Dominican underprivileged children’s charity foundations. In the case of the Blue Marlin Classic, the Patronato Oriental – Hogar del Niño has received generous donations each year from our event. Other distinctive features are that we bring a group of international Certified Observers so each competing boat has an observer aboard during each day of competition to prevent rule infractions and identify species before fish are carefully released to swim away and reproduce, as well as the fact that we give a cash award to the crew that applies the most tags to fish for conservation and scientific studies”.
The Casa de Campo Blue Marlin Classic continues to grow in notoriety each year uniquely generating a substantial amount of press in both print and electronic, local and international publications adding to the image of the sport, to the popularity of the fabulous marina and to the growth of an important segment of this highly specialized type of sport tourism. “Add social media to the equation and it is no wonder that since we started these international style events several other new tournaments have been added in the Dominican Republic” Alvarez concluded.
More and more visiting boats are staying in the Dominican Republic for longer periods of time with Marina Casa de Campo experiencing a record number of visiting boats during the 2017 Fishing Season. Jose Gonzalvo, Marina Casa de Campo General Manager and experienced angler in his own right pointed out that “since 2013 when the Dominican Republic was first ranked the Number One billfishery in the world by the Billfish Report, Casa de Campo in particular has been ranked in the Top Ten destinations thereafter”. In closing he added, “The presence of an estimated seventy high end sportfishing boats for an average stay of 3.5 months of the year consuming local goods and services yields very considerable sums of revenue and adds jobs to the local economy”.

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) –
A woman from Florence was killed in a crash while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.
According to WLEX, the crash occurred Saturday night in the city of La Romana. Carol Ann Murphy and another woman died when their vehicle fell from a bridge. The identity of the other woman has not been released.
Murphy was just 45 years old when she died. The Florence woman was in this car when her family says she lost control and went off a bridge.
The family is having a hard time coming to grips with what happened.
“It doesn’t seem believable. All of us have been so in denial. It doesn’t seem real at all,” Thailia Valencia-Murphy said about her mother.
They want their mother to be remembered as animated, adventurous and a lover of travel.
What is upsetting them are the pictures of their mother’s dead body that have been posted on Facebook. It’s believed the person doing it is from the Dominican Republic.
“We saw some very gruesome photos of my mom. Like it was so unrealistic,” said Lakisha Lattimore, another of Murphy’s daughters.
Murphy’s four children — three daughters and one son — want something done.
“I never want to see my mom like that, ever,” said Takia Rodriguez. “It’s something I still have in my head. When I saw it all I did was cry my eyes out.”
The family said their mom was on her way to the beach when she died. She was a diabetic, and they are unsure if that could have played a role in her death.
Family members started a GoFundMe account to raise money to bring her body back to U.S. soil for her funeral. After burial expenses, the remainder of the funds will be donated to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation in Murphy’s honor.
