PUERTO PLATA.- The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) reported that as of August 20th, the transfer of shipping / moving cargo through the commercial dock of Puerto Plata will be restored.
This provision was made by the general director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo), in a letter addressed to the Association of Cargo Consolidators of the Northern Region (ACOCARENOR) and other business entities. This measure is expected to materialize immediately because both the moving companies, as well as the unions of the group of workers for loading and unloading products in the port area have been experiencing difficult times.
From now on there is great expectation that in the next few hours the container ships (Furgoneros) that bring from the United States the cargo consigned by the moving companies that give “life” to the “members” who are multiple workers of the local dock, who have suffered firsthand the bitter experience of the prolonged absence of shipping companies. For inexplicable reasons, in the past, the operations of the movers were transferred to the Haina dock, leaving the Puerto Plata port workers helpless, and to add to the insult, a customs collector named Narciso Tiburcio Mota was appointed, against whom various protests took place.
