Bicycling Your Way through the Capital City of Santo Domingo

In some countries bicycles are the perfect transportation method. In Santo Domingo, the Dominican capital city, bicycles have become very popular in the last few years.

For those who do not have bicycles, there are several bike rental stores situated throughout the city, especially in the city’s most important parks and in the Colonial Zone as well.

Sunny Bikes. Since August 2016, visitors can rent modern bicycles at “Sunny Bikes.” Situated in the very heart of the Colonial Zone, on Duarte Street #154, the store has bicycles for the entire family. Bicycles are rented by the hour and to fit the needs of the particular client. Rental prices will vary from approximately US$6 to US$25. The store also offers various rental packages, which include water bottles, helmets and bike locks.

The Sunny Bikes team will provide all the necessary information on where to go in the Colonial Zone.

Zona Bici. This particular store rents “vintage” bicycles. It is situated in the very heart of the city’s Colonial Zone, on Salome Ureña Street.

Hours: Monday-Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and from 3:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. Rental price: Approximately US$6.00.

Aro & Pedal. One of the oldest rental stores in the city, the store holds evening bicycle tours every Wednesday. Point of departure is on Abraham Lincoln Street.

“Mirador Sur” Park:

Bike Club. Visitors can rent bicycles right in “Mirador Park,” the city’s most beautiful and centrally located six-kilometer long park. www.facebook.com/pg/BikeClub1

“Mirador Norte” Park:

Situated in the northern most section of Santo Domingo, the park is one of the city’s most important natural reserves, that borders the Isabela River.

CoroletaBeerbike Dominicana.This innovative and comfortable way of visiting the Colonial Zone began in Europe, and has become an important attraction in the area. The “CoroletaBeerbike” can accommodate up to 16 passengers, and it moves with the help of the pedaling carried out by the passengers.

Price includes the head driver, wi-fi, music and refreshing drinks (must be requested beforehand).

Vespa Colonial Tour.Also situated in the Colonial Zone, store hours are from noon to 8:00 p.m. every day of the week. The Vespas are rented with a driver, and the Colonial Zone tour lasts some 40 minutes.
