Work related accidents up on last year
According to the Administrator of Labor Risks, 38,382 reports of work-related accidents were received during 2016, an increase of 12% over 2015.
Most accidents were recorded in the private sector while 6,565 were reported in the public sector. The highest number of accidents took place in the industrial workplace – the manufacturing of food and drink products, apparel and textiles, shoes etc. In second place was commerce and vehicle repair and third place was education, then health and social services, followed by construction, transport, warehousing and communications.
The 20-29 age group was worst affected by accidents at work, followed by people between the ages of 30 and 39 and then 50 to 59-year olds. The lowest rate of accidents was reported for the under 20s.
