Volunteers of ‘Live Different’ build houses
The volunteers of the foundation ‘Live different’ build houses, schools, clubhouses and medical clinics for poor people in Puerto Plata and Sosúa. The foundation ‘Live Different’ is a Canadian organization from Hamilton, Ontario, and allows volunteers to participate in various development projects. The projects are financed through fundraising. In the last year some 15 groups visited Sosúa where they were staying at hotel ‘Sosua by the Sea’. At present there is a group of five men and ten women with ages ranging between 14 and 69 years for ten days in Sosúa present.
They are building simple houses in hamlets around Sosúa and Puerto Plata. The stone houses are provided with a living room, bedroom and toilet. Brett Dyrland is the organizer and leader of the group and he has contacts with several important people in Sosúa and Puerto Plata. Therefore he has an advantage at purchasing the necessary materials and receives full cooperation in carrying out the projects. The foundation ‘Live Different’ has been active since 2005 in the Dominican Republic and has so far been able to build 314 houses and three schools.
