Vicente García wins two Latin Grammys

Dominican singer Vicente García debuted in the 18th Latin Grammy Awards winning two awards in the Best Tropical Song (Bachata en Kingston, sung and written by Garcia, and a track from the Album A la Mar) and Best New Artist categories. He had also been nominated in the Album of the Year category (A la Mar). A la Mar is a Sony Music Colombia album.

The Latin Grammy Awards are regarded as the most prestigious in the Latin music and the awards ceremony is the biggest night in Latin music. This year the event was held on Thursday, 16 November 2017 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

As part of the Latin Grammy 2017 celebrations, Dominican merengue legend, singer and songwriter Cuco Valoy received a Latin Grammy special honoree, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award that was handed to him by another Dominican merengue master Johnny Ventura in the presence of Valoy’s son, singer Ramón Orlando at the Las Vegas Four Seasons Hotel on 15 November 2017.

Dominican musician and composer, Michel Camilo was also honored with the Best Instrumental Album Award for his album “Spain Forever” in collaboration with Spanish flamenco guitarist Tomatito. The album includes an original composition by Camilo and recreations of classics by Egberto Gismonti, Charlie Haden, Astor Piazzola, Erik Satie, Ennio Morricone, Django Reindhart, Luiz Bonfá and Chick Corea.
