The Kansas City Aviation adds nonstop service to Dominican Republic

The Kansas City Aviation Department on Monday announced new nonstop charter flights between Kansas City International Airport and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic,

The service, to be provided by Vacation Express, represents the third international route at KCI (Code: MCI) and its first nonstop link to Punta Cana.

The new flights will be available between Feb. 18 and Aug. 3, with flights departing Kansas City on Friday and returning on Thursday as part of six-night packages offered by Vacation Express. For travelers who already have a place to stay, air-only service is available.

“The demand for air travel between Kansas City and the Caribbean reached an all-time high earlier this year when Punta Cana became the most popular Caribbean destination for Kansas City vacationers,” Aviation Director Pat Klein said in a release. “We appreciate Vacation Express for their willingness to add Kansas City to their expanding network.”

Kevin Hernandez, Vacation Express vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release that the popularity of nonstop fights between Kansas City and Cancun, Mexico, let his company know that “travelers were seeking something new.”

“Punta Cana is a perfect fit for sun seekers looking to claim their slice of paradise in the Caribbean,” he added.

The weekly charter flight to Punta Cana will be operated by Miami Air International via Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 180 seats.

It represents the latest in several nonstop flights that have been added at KCI.
