Punta Cana Experiences Highest Growth
Punta Cana, on the country’s eastern region and the Caribbean’s top tourism destination, experienced the highest growth in incoming Travellers, according to Expedia.
During last year’s third quarter, says the international travel website, the region experienced a 25% increase in international Travellers, surpassing the 20% growth registered by Nassau, in the Bahamas.
According to Expedia, the number of Brazilian citizens visiting Punta Cana grew by an impressive 30%, and a 20% jump in the number of French tourists, in comparison to 2015 data.
Some 3,115,468 tourists traveled to the Dominican Republic during the January-November 2016 period, and of this number 67% came in to the country through Punta Cana’s international airport.
Also, during January-September 51% (35,559) of all tourism rooms were situated in the Punta Cana region, according to the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES). During January-September, Punta Cana also registered the highest occupation rates in the country and the Caribbean region (86.8%).
