Puerto Plata airport receives a 14.7% increase in passengers

PUERTO PLATA.- The company Aeropuertos Dominos Siglo XXI (AERODOM) reported that till August, there was a 14 percent increase in the number of passengers who traveled to and from the Gregorio Luperón International Airport, in comparison with the same period last year.

This information was provided by the Puerto Plata airport operation director, Enrique Pacheco, who stated that “the Canadian market grew 22% from January to August, driven by the increase in frequencies of the main destinations, Montreal and Toronto, as well as new routes from cities such as Bagotville, Fredericton, Moncton, Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg.

In the same order, Pacheco added that there was also an increase of 8.5 percent in the number of travelers from the United States recorded in comparison with the previous year, due to the “increase of flights from the cities of New York and Charlotte. ”

Likewise, it announced that Puerto Plata will be the first airport in the country and the Caribbean to receive the Airbus A350-900, which is one of the most modern aircraft in the world that will operate Finnair from November 30th to and from Helsinki, Finland , during the winter season 2017-2018.

He added that as of November 6, Azur Air will operate a weekly flight from Dusseldorf, Germany, during the winter season, with a B767-300 aircraft with a capacity of 334 seats; also, from December 14th Eurowings will connect Dusseldorf and Puerto Plata with a weekly flight, operated by Airbus A300-200 equipment with capacity for 310 passengers.

He informed that Eurowings will operate during the summer of 2018, with a weekly flight, the route from Munich, which had only been served during the winter season and Sunwing will add among its destinations during the winter from the city of Canada, CharlotteTown, with one flight per week .

Finally, he said that the AERODOM team promotes the facilities of the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata, which was recognized this year as “Best Airport for up to 2 million passengers, in the Region of Latin America and the Caribbean” in the surveys Airport Service Quality (ASQ), granted by Airports Council International (ACI).
