Public Hospital of Puerto Plata lacks supplies, equipment and medications to attend patients
PUERTO PLATA .- Dozens of citizens who regularly attend Ricardo Limardo Hospital in Puerto Plata, criticize the state care center for not having supplies or medicines, especially now when Semana Santa is approaching.
Because of the deplorable conditions of the Hospital Ricardo Limardo, last week all the nursing staff went on strike for 8 hours in order to draw attention of the authorities.
The general secretary of the National Union of Nursing Workers (SINATRAE) in Puerto Plata, Miguelina Alejandro, said that the health center has been in the process of rejuvenation for four and a half years, and that work has never been finished. There’s even lack of basic medicines such as analgesics and Metamizol to reduce fever.
“It’s a shame and embarrassment to go to the hospital in Puerto Plata despite every human being has the right to receive medical attention in a dignified manner … There is no gauze or thread to suture wounds, nor syringes … there is nothing, patients or their relatives have to buy it …. And the infrastructure leaves much to be desired. God help to all the Dominicans so they don’t have to go to the local hospital “, expressed Yendy Bonilla.
The authorities of the Provincial Health Directorate in Puerto Plata stay silent about the deplorable conditions of the State Hospital, which provides assistance not only to the inhabitants of the province, but also to patients from other localities of Cibao and a large number of Haitian citizens.
