Parents are frustrated about high costs of school uniform and supplies

PUERTO PLATA.- The majority of parents and guardians of students continue to “shout into the sky” because of the high costs of uniforms, footwear, and various school supplies, as next Monday the new School year begins throughout the country.

The complaints of the citizens are collective in different commercial establishments of Puerto Plata such as Jiménez, Rodali Library, Casa Nelson, La Sirena, among others, which before the start of the school season placed offers for parents who come to buy stationery and other supplies for their children.

Upon being interviewed, Mrs. Carmen Peralta said that she had to take a loan to buy the supplies and uniforms for her three children and prepare them, since the beginning of the school year coincided with a very precarious economic situation.

Yohanny Vargas explained that in addition to the high prices of all school supplies, parents have to make additional efforts to pay the modified rates of private schools every month, noting that there is no way to alleviate the economic burden together with other household responsibilities.

While Mr. Augusto Chrysostom, who was with his two children who will attend the third and fifth grades of primary school, said that, in a mandatory manner, families have to borrow money to cover expenses for uniforms, shoes, backpacks, books, so that your children can get to school on time.
