Obras Públicas y Comunicaciones advances in road reconstruction in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata. – The companies contracted for the Navarrete-Puerto Plata roads and the tourist road Gregorio Luperón advance in several sections with the reconstruction of the roads, despite problems of landslides. At some critical points, such as the case of Las Avispas and La Clorada, residents placed signs with messages like “Mr. President, this will remain here until there are built four way highway as promised.” There have been years of waiting for the road to reduce the journey from Santiago to Puerto Plata, and we will have to wait a little longer, although the contractors have streamlined the work.

The landslides and rains leave that province isolated in the section of La Colorada. Earlier this week, Ramón Antonio Pepín, deputy minister of Public Works and Communications, said that he has been working in two fronts, one from Santiago to Puerto Plata and another from Puerto Plata to Santiago. He hopes that by the end of this year they will have an advanced section of the important road.

The official said that the highway Jacagua-Palo Alto, has a good pace of work, as well as the tourist Gregorio Luperon that would reduce the time and the journey for those who move to the municipality of Sosua. He also noted that the asphalting works that are carried out in the province of Santiago and its municipalities are going very well, as planned.

Pepín said that in the coming days they will accelerate that asphalt plan, because for the next few weeks or at the end of this new one they will start laying asphalt in the communities of La Canela, Matanzas, and Gurabo.

“We want all the inhabitants of the city and the province of Santiago to know that Public Works is working according to the schedule to lay asphalt, so do not despair, because we will have the city completely paved,” he said.
