Nickelodeon Hotel & Resort in Punta Cana – Review by a family
WHEN you’ve watched upwards of 200 episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants with your kids, the idea of staying at a Nickelodeon Hotel & Resort seems as appealing as gnawing off your own arm.
After all, who wants to be surrounded by gaudy cartoon characters 24/7 at a fenced-off all-inclusive property where there’s little — or no — escape?
But my predictions were way off. Our family’s visit to Nickelodeon’s new outpost in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic’s easternmost beachfront stretch, wasn’t just an immense amount of fun. It was ultra-modern, grown-up and tasteful.
“How can that possibly be?” you might ask.
The beauty of the place, opened in September and run by parent company Karisma Hotels, is that it combines elements of an elegant resort — cocktails by an infinity pool overlooking the beach, anyone? — with a mini-water park paying homage to SpongeBob.
The only evidence of Nickelodeon in your colourful guest room is its trademark orange blimp, which doubles as a stool at the end of the bed.
The four of us — including 8-year-old Daisy and 6-year-old Bobby — booked a so-called ‘swim-up pad’, which means there’s a pool directly accessible from your personal terrace.
