Four Dominican International Airports Receive International Certification
The Dominican Republic became the first Caribbean country to have four of its eight international airports receive international certification, according to the norms and regulations established by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The certification process honors the Port-of-Spain Agreement, signed two years ago in Trinidad and Tobago during the Organization’s last international meeting.
Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport, “El Higuero,” (Santo Domingo’s local airport), “El Catey,” in the northeast región of Samana and Santiago’s international airport (in the country’s central región) all received the international certification.
The Port-of-Spain agreement indicated that by the end of 2016 all States had to have 48% of its airports certified by the Organization.
The certification process indicates that the country has strengthened and complies with international standards in civil aviation.
