Flotilla of Volkswagen vehicles from Puerto Rico visits La Puntilla of Puerto Plata

PUERTO PLATA.- A small fleet of Volkswagen-branded cars from the neighboring island of Puerto Rico made a visit to the La Puntilla area on the Malecon of Puerto Plata.

The vehicles that were built in 1956, 1966 and 1969, arrived in the country through the ferry boat of the Caribbean to participate in an exhibition of emblematic models on Día Mundial del Cepillo, an event organized by the Dominican Club of Volkswagen held in the Fortress Ozama of Santo Domingo.

Mrs. Angela Ortiz Rivera, who accompanied her family and friends from Puerto Rico to participate in the exhibition told graphic reporter Augusto Martínez (El Acucioso) that after finishing the event in the capital, they decided to come to Puerto Plata to enjoy the natural beauty and the great historical heritage of this town located in the northern part of the Dominican Republic.

Carrying the flag of “La Isla del Encanto” the small fleet of Puerto Rican vehicles – three minibuses and a car, showed up in the front of the colonial fort San Felipe.

Some citizens were amazed by the way these vehicles are kept, mostly the beetle type car that was the first prototype that emerged in February 1936 under the name “Volkswagen” and was intended for the working class.
