Dominicans top number of Hispanics in New York

A recent report from the Pew Research Center in the United States estimated that there are 58.6 million Hispanics in the United States, which accounts for 18% of the total population of the country.

Of these some 1.8 million are Dominicans, with 1.5 million of them living in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. It should be noted that 886,000 Dominicans live in New York. This number is the highest for Latin Americans living there, or 33% of the total Latino population.

Looking at the total racial and ethnic picture of the country, whites have the highest number at 197,959,872; followed by Hispanics with 58,603,060; then African Americans with 40,573,936; and finally Asians at 18,262,549, bringing the total to 325,344,115 people.
