Carnival Puerto Plata 2017 showed tremendous quality in terms of creativity, joy, and color
PUERTO PLATA. – On February 26, the last Sunday of the month, Carnival Puerto Plata 2017 was celebrated on Malecon in front of the Long Beach, where once again it was emphasized that the great quality characterizes this cultural festival, which is one of the traditions of “The Bride of the Atlantic”.
This event, organized by the Puerto Plata Carnival Union (UCAPPLATA) and president Dr. Juan Oscar Souffront (Yanco), presented to the hundreds of spectators a pleasant mix of individuals, groups, Diablos Cojuelos and Taimáscaros Tribes that with their multicolored costumes attracted the attention of the large crowd.
The event began with the entrance of King Momo, Johan Garcia, and the Queen of the carnival, Juliana Bank, to then give way to about 36 groups that hoisted the patriotic values of Dominicans with a defined concept of our heroes who helped achieve Sovereignty in the Dominican Republic.
Authorities such as Senator Jose Ignacio Paliza, deputy Graciela Fermín, Deputy Mayor Marisol Almonte and police colonel José Armando Brito Melo, were members of the jury, that evaluated the individuals, and the groups.
One of the most emotional moments was the presentation of the group “Carnavetnia” that won the National Competition of Comparsas Kanibarú performed in the great Cibao Theater of Santiago. They showed a superb choreography, in addition to the rhythmic dance, concept, their costumes and masks, and the audience who was delirious with emotion.
The musical part was executed by Raffy Diaz and his typical set, in addition to Diomary La Mala. The UCAPPLATA board announced that the Grand final parade of the Puerto Plata Carnival 2017 will be held on Sunday, March 12th with the presentation of the Salsero Sexappeal and several carnival delegations from other provinces of the country.
