Air Transat began direct flights between Toronto and Santo Domingo on December 18. It will fly on Sundays until April 30, 2017 using a Boeing 737-800.

The Air Transat flight program to the D.R. for the 2016-2017 winter season offers travelers 35 sun destinations, including five to the Dominican Republic: La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo (for the first time) and Samana.

Air Transat is Canada’s number one travel and holiday airline for transatlantic markets. Each year the airline transports some three million passengers to approximately 60 destinations in 25 countries.

In recent years the airline has won multiple awards for its eco-friendly policies. Since 2011 it has ranked as the number one airline in North America and in the top 20 worldwide for its energy efficient policies, by the Atmosfair Airline Index.

During January-November 2016 Dominican airports handled 678,458 Canadian travelers. Of this number, 5,489 came in through Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport. In 2015, 745,860 Canadians visited the country and 7,260 came in through Santo Domingo’s international airport.
