A suitcase with 159,000 Canadian dollars abandoned at the airport of Puerto Plata
PUERTO PLATA .- A suitcase containing the sum of 159 thousand Canadian dollars was surprisingly left abandoned by a foreign traveler at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport of Puerto Plata on Tuesday afternoon.
Several officers of the intelligence department of the General Directorate of Customs (DGM) attached to the terminal, seized the 159 thousand Canadian dollars found in an abandoned suitcase, which had an identification tag to the name of Mr. Amabelino Galrao Gonçalve.
It was stated that Galrao Gonçalve of Canadian nationality unexpectedly left the suitcase after it was checked to board the flight number 796 of the Air Transat airline to Toronto (Canada).
The foreigner simply stated that it was not his luggage. The inspectors of the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) proceeded to carry out the inspection of the suitcase, finding the 159 thousand Canadian dollars in it, that was confiscated.
