Zika no longer epidemic in the DR
The Epidemiology Agency at the Ministry of Public Health says that the number of zika cases in the country has dropped considerably. The latest bulletin from the agency shows the consistent decline in cases. Six cases were reported for week 33 of 2016 (in the provinces of Azua, Barahona, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Santiago and Santo Domingo), while four cases were reported for week 34 (in Pedernales, Independencia and Santiago).
Epidemiological experts perceive the disease may have run its course. There were 5,135 suspected cases of zika for the duration of the epidemic
