Vin Diesel Joins J Balvin Onstage In Dominican Republic
The Fast and Furious star has been a frequent visitor to the country for years, and even brought production of his upcoming film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage there.
On Saturday (25Jun16), he took a break from filming to watch his pal J Balvin perform in Santo Domingo, and took the stage to welcome the Reggaeton star to what Vin called “his country”.
“This is incredible,” Vin told the crowd. “He’s the best. Let’s give him a round of applause.”
Later, Vin took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes selfie of himself with J Balvin, adding the caption: “My brother from Colombia in my country. For my people.”
Vin has a long history with the Dominican Republic and in 2010 he met with then-president Leonel Fernandez to discuss ways to boost the island’s film industry.
Diesel also recently made history in nearby Cuba when he took the Fast & Furious franchise there to start work on Fast 8.
Director F. Gary Gray shot scenes for the film in Havana, becoming the first filmmaker to shoot a major Hollywood project in Cuba in over 50 years.
He marked the occasion by posting a video of himself and Vin walking through the streets of the capital on Instagram.
Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, hails from Cuba, and the actor admitted it’s good to be back “where the Torettos started”.
