Valdez Albizu favors elimination of tax on banking

Central Bank governor Hector Valdez Albizu says that he is in agreement with the elimination of the 0.15% tax on checks and electronic transfers of funds. Valdez said that the tax was intended to be temporary. Valdez is also in favor of eliminating taxation on savings in the future, at least for deposits of up to RD$500,000 so as not to affect small savers. Speaking during his meeting with the new board of the Savings and Loans Banks Association (Abancor) yesterday, Thursday 21 April 2016, the CB governor stated that: “There are negative aspects that hinder progress towards encouraging the widespread use of banking in the country. ”
