US$300M seaside project could spur La Romana´s tourism

La Romana, Dominican Republic.- A project with the support of the Dominican and Spanish governments would provide a 3-kilometer seaside boulevard to La Caleta, La Romana (east), expected to spur the province´s tourism.

In its first phase the US$300 million project would include 10 stores, docks, customs offices, shops in kiosks, parking, penthouses and a ferry to Catalina Island.

La Caleta town manager Naphtali Rijo, who went to Madrid to present the project to the group Arnaiz  & Partners said the investors were receptive to the project and was given the boulevard´s architectural renderings.

He said the work would provide 1,000 direct jobs and aims to take advantage of ??La Romana´s proximity to the sea, and attractions in La Caleta and in Saona and Catalina islands as well.

Rijo said the public-private project is the most ambitious ever conceived in the La Caleta-La Romana area, with a beach and boardwalk that would stretch from Playa La Caleta to Boqueron.
