United States clearing Dominicans out of their jails
Three thousand Dominicans who have completed sentences in the United States for drug dealing have been repatriated in the last 18 months and another 1,340 have been deported for other crimes.
According to the Las Americas International Airport, last year 2,450 Dominicans were deported from the US after having completed jail time, for drug dealing and another 550 in the first 6 months of this year.
Adding together the total number of crime related deportations last year and the first half of this year, the figure reaches 4,340 as part of the United States policy to free up space in the jails, especially those in New York.
