Troops halt more than 150 undocumented Haitians in two weeks
Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Army troops arrested 84 undocumented Haitians who tried to cross the border to enter the country illegally, the second detention in as many weeks.
The foreigners carried bundles containing clothes, water and food when they were stopped in the checkpoints at Sanita, Copey, Matanza, Santa Maria and Cañongo.
When questioned by military authorities, the Haitians said they were traveling to Santiago, Puerto Plata and Mao among other north region cities.
All the foreigners were sent to Dajabon’s 10th Infantry Battalion headquarters, from where they were handed over to immigration agents for repatriation.
The Army last week reported the arrest of more than 70 undocumented Haitians trying to cross the same border area, where additional troops have been deployed
