Trial for Chinese brothers nabbed with 1,372 sea turtle shells
Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- The Montecristi Instruction Court on Thursday ordered a criminal trial against two Chinese nationals who were arrested with 1,372 sea turtle shells during a raid in the town of Pepillo Salcedo (northwest) November last year.
The brothers Shenghuan and Shenghai Wu were arrested by Dominican Navy sailors after an anonymous tip by phone that they allegedly transported in a vehicle hawksbill turtle shells and parts.
Last November the court barred the Wus from leaving the country, and ordered periodic appearance at the Office of the Prosecutor while the Justice Ministry investigating the case. They had been released on bond of RD$30,000 each.
