Tollbooth crash in Santiago
A white Nissan Pathfinder (license plate G223484) crashed into the Santiago Circunvalacion Norte bypass tollbooth on Saturday, 9 January 2016. The driver, 22-year old William Eduardo Romero Martinez was taken to the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez Public Hospital but was not seriously injured. The tollbooth, which was not staffed at the time of the crash and the vehicle were completely destroyed. Diario Libre reports that a video by Enrique Mejia released on social media showed the impact of the speeding vehicle.
Diario Libre reports that Romero Martinez is a brother of professional baseball player Wilmer Romero who played in the minor leagues with the Yankees for four years after being signed in 2011 with an advance of US$656,000.
