Third International Cocoa Conference Will Be Held in the D.R.

Producers and manufacturers of cocoa and chocolate from 40 countries will participate in the international conference, scheduled for May 22 in Punta Cana, one of the Caribbean’s most important tourism destinations.

Organizers chose the country as the venue for the conference because of the fame the Dominican Republic has acquired in this important and lucrative market.

Currently, the Dominican Republic is a leading producer of premium organic cocoa. During the event tourists will be able to take guided tours of various cocoa plantations and production plants.

The Conference is being held for the first time in Latin America, and is co-sponsored by the Dominican Ministry of Agriculture.

Some 1,500 chocolatiers, from all five continents, have confirmed their participation.

During the conference, experts on the sector will discuss issues involving the production and processing of the national and international cocoa industry.

The Dominican Republic is hosting the event because of its international fame for producing world-class organic cocoa.

Visiting Local Cocoa Plantations

The D.R. currently has planted some 2.4 million hectares of cocoa, which is exported to many nations throughout the world. Conference participants, as well as national and international tourists, can participate in guided tours of various cocoa plantations – all situated in the country’s north, central and eastern mountain regions and near Punta Cana and La Romana, in the eastern region.
