The DR having tough time in volleyball qualifier
The Dominican Republic women’s squad has lost its first two games in the Japan Rio Olympics Qualifier taking place in Tokyo, Japan. The DR seeks to win one of four slots in the Rio Olympics that are being decided in the tournament.
The Dominican Republic (ranked 7th) is competing against Japan (5th), Italy (8th), South Korea (9th), Thailand (13th), Netherlands (14th), Peru (21st) and Kazakhstan (26th) in its quest for one of four slots in the Rio Olympics. The tournament is being held from 14-22 May 2016 in Tokyo at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
The DR lost its first two games to Thailand (26-24, 26-28, 25-16, 25-20) and Peru (25-22, 25-16, 26-24).
The DR still has five games to go. The next games are against Italy (17 May), Netherlands (18 May), Japan (20 May), Kazakhstan (21 May) and South Korea (22 May).
The Dominican Republic entered the tournament ranked 7th. The rankings of the other teams are Japan (5th), Italy (8th), South Korea (9th), Thailand (13th), Netherlands (14th), Peru (21st) and Kazakhstan (26th).
