The Dominican Republic track team won the gold medal in the 4×100 meter dash at the Ibero-American Athletics
The Dominican Republic track team won the gold medal in the 4×100 meter dash at the Ibero-American Athletics tournament held 14-16 May 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was a qualifier for the Rio Olympics. On Monday, 16 May 2016 the Dominican team won the gold medal in the relay, setting a new record at 38:52. Running for the DR were: Stanly del Carmen Cruz, Yancarlos Martinez, Mayovanex Mendez and Yohandris Andujar.
The Track and Field Federation said the mark places the DR 12th in the top 16 teams that will be competing in Rio de Janeiro.
During the event, Stanly Cruz won gold in the 100-meter dash (10.27) and Yancarlos Martinez won gold in the 200-meter dash (20.19).
The DR silver medalists were Luguelin Santos in the 400m with 45.58, and Luis Charles, Yon Carty, Andito Charles and Maximo Mejia in the 4x400m relay with 3:03.43.
The DR also won a bronze medal in the triple jump with Ana Tima who jumped 13.84.
