The country’s road grid is ‘5th best’ in the Americas

Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Thursday said the country can boast progress on its road grid over the past 25 years.

He said the Dominican Republic has achieved a high quality and fairly expansive road network during that period, both in the major cities of Santo Domingo and Santiago and on the roads between all provinces as well.

Castillo said the growth placed the Dominican Republic as the fifth country with the best roads throughout the Americas last year. He said the country is expected to reach fourth next year, with the projects started during the last 18 months.

“Among the roads we are finishing figure the Azua Beltway which we expect to conclude by August this year; the Bani Beltway, which is being tendered; the Barahona Beltway, which allows going around Barahona and continue on to the coast at Enriquillo and Pedernales without having to enter the town,” the official said.

“As you know we have already finished the beltways at Santiago, San Pedro and La Romana, and section one and section two of the Santo Domingo Beltway,” Castillo said, interviewed on NCDN, channel 37.
