Taxi drivers protest Uber’s ‘illegal’ operation at busy airport
Santo Domingo.- The Las Americas Airport’s Taxi Drivers Union on Wednesday picketed in front of the terminal during more than two hours to protest allegedly illegal operation of vehicles by the transport company Uber.
The picket transpired peacefully closely watched by National Police officers and security agents.
The protest, which lasted from 10am to 12 noon didn’t hamper any of the arriving or departing flights, according to the Las Americas Operations.
Taxi union spokesman Juan De Jesus said they’re protesting illegal operations by the foreign taxi company Uber, around the airport. “Uber, as you know is a company without any legal framework which is not authorized for their vehicles to ply Route 66, from Las Americas Airport or any other Dominican airport.”
