Sosúa Cartoon Project
In October 2015, Victor Belen started a course in the production of cartoons and animation. The course was initially given in the upper room of Casa de Arte, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. About thirty children participated in the course ‘Sosúa Cartoon’. In early 2016, a classroom in the municipal library of Charamicos was made available for Victor. The Ministry of Culture subsidized computers, light boxes, benches and other supplies. With this equipment Victor could bring the cartoon work to a professional level. A number of talented students are now working on producing an animation of at least 50 minutes. Every second of animated film consists of about 15 images. A very time consuming job. But in fact it will be a great promotion project for Sosúa, which can benefiting the local community.
Victor Belen, the instructor of the project, is an artist and has his studio round the corner from the Checkpoint bar in Sosúa. He is an excellent painter, cartoonist and sculptor. This project is a long-cherished dream come true for Victor.
