Sigma Foods (Sosua) uses biomass for power generation
Thursday afternoon a power generator that makes use of biomass started operation at the Sigma food plant in Sosúa. The milk processing plant Sigma was formerly known as ‘Productos Sosúa’ and owned by the Jewish community. The last manager and director of the company Mr. Herman Strauss, retired.
Because there was no successor available, the shareholders decided to sell the company to the Mexican company ‘Sigma’. The new power generator produces the electricity for the entire company in a more environmentally friendly way. The new machine is quieter so that nearby living residents will experience less discomfort. Many were present at the the official start-up of the power generator, among them Colonel Bonifacio Sierra of the Air Force General Richard Vásquez, Luis German Castaño from the environmental department of Sosúa and Father Bernardo Vasquez who also consecrated the power generator.
