Seven new roadworks for Santo Domingo
Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo has announced the construction of seven new overpasses in Greater Santo Domingo as extensions of the Corredor Duarte roadworks.
These will be an overpass on Av. Charles de Gaulle at the entrance to Invivienda and another at Sabana Perdida. Others will be built at Km. 17 and Km. 22 and Km. 23 of the Duarte Highway.
In the first half of 2016, major road solutions are also planned for the intersection of Av. 27 de Febrero with Av. Isabel Aguiar (Pintura) with new access roads to be built leading to the 6 de Noviembre Highway (to San Cristobal) and the Prolongacion 27 de Febrero (leading to the Duarte Highway).
Castillo announced that two tunnels off 27 de Febrero Avenue at the Plaza de la Bandera, one westbound on the Inespre side and another eastbound on the Ministry of Defense side on Av. 27 de Febrero would be constructed this year. He said the provisional u-turn system in front of the Ministry of Defense would be modified. He also announced that the inauguration of the pedestrian overpass on Av. 27 de Febrero near the intersection with Av. Privada would take place this week.
Castillo announced that the first overpass at the entrance to Caucedo Port on Las Americas Highway, aimed at easing traffic flow in the area, would be opened on 30 April 2016. He said work is progressing on the roadworks to improve traffic at La Caleta-Boca Chica, an 8km stretch known for its many traffic accidents and congestion problems. He said that this project would include seven pedestrian bridges and five overpasses.
He announced the overpass on Charles de Gaulle with Carretera Mella would be inaugurated this year.
