Samana Peninsula, on the D.R.’s North Coast, Included on the Condé Nast Gold List

The Samana Peninsula, situated on the country’s northeast region, was chosen as one of the world’s most beautiful places and placed on the 2016 Gold List 2016 of the prestigious U.S. magazine Condé Nast Traveller. The tourism-oriented publication says that Samana is one of the world’s most pristine places, where visitors can enjoy to the fullest the unspoiled beauty of one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful landscapes.

Says the magazine: “The turquoise waters of Samana, the beaches lined with coconut trees, and the nearby green hills offer an idyllic setting to relax and enjoy the fishing culture of the area.

The magazine also placed the Dominican Republic on its prestigious Gold List. The publication notes that the decision to include the Dominican Republic on the list thanks to the country’s beauty and exciting destinations such as Santo Domingo – the capital city – Punta Cana, Barahona and Pedernales (on the southwest region), the Amber Coast and Samana (on the north coast) and the 14 national parks all rich in pristine turquoise beaches and wild treasures, which together form “the perfect definition of paradise”.

The magazine also invites visitors to let themselves get carried away by the country’s traditional merengue and bachata music, and “vibrate with this land of contrasts, tobacco and rum.”

The Samana Peninsula is famous for the annual pilgrimage carried out by the humpback whales that travel to the region from Greenland and the North Atlantic at the beginning of the year.  During their stay off the waters of the country’s north coast, thousands of national and international visitors visit the region to enjoy the spectacle put on by the whales.

The Samana Peninsula is also home to Rincon Beach, one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

Samana Bay is now part of the exclusive Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World.
