Puerto Ricans look for investments and jobs in DR
Dozens of Puerto Rican businesspeople are exploring the Dominican Republic for investment opportunities in a number of areas, while other Puerto Ricans are arriving with work contracts in several sectors, especially hotels and tourism. El Nacional newspaper says that there has been considerable movement of Puerto Ricans to the Dominican Republic due to the economic crisis affecting the neighboring island. Puerto Ricans are arriving on flights to Las Americas International in Santo Domingo, but also to La Romana and Punta Cana international airports.
According to airport authorities and immigration officials, Puerto Ricans are arriving with work contracts and have received three to six-month renewable residence permits.
As well as work contracts and hotels, hundreds of Puerto Ricans are also moving to the DR in search of work in construction, automobile mechanics, medicine in private clinics n perhaps the greatest percentage n remittance companies and other areas.
The officials revealed that 63% of the Puerto Ricans who have come to the country to work are men between the ages of 23 and 34. The report adds that others have come to work in lawyers’ offices. During the first months of 2016 more than 300 Puerto Rican businesspeople have visited to explore opportunities for major business investments, mainly in hotels and tourism.
