Puerto Plata troupes again get major national awards in Carnival Parade
PUERTO PLATA – Having main attraction and creativity, combining colorful and diverse concepts that highlight our cultural roots, the massive delegation from Puerto Plata last Sunday participated at the grand finale carnival parade held in Santo Domingo, and again they swept the top places.
According to reports by the president of the Carnival Union of Puerto Plata (UCAPPLATA); Dr. Juan Oscar Souffront (Yanco), the delegation of “The Bride of the Atlantic” again swept the final carnival parade held on the Malecon in Santo Domingo winning 4 first places in different categories, as well as second and third places in other categories, showing that the carnival of Puerto Plata is the best in the Dominican republic.
The groups of Puerto Plata that won first place are “Maid in Canas” – in Individual category, also in the Creativity Popular category, first place went to Puerto Plata – Muñecas de Yute decoradas con Cana. The category “Cultural Tradition” was won by the troupe:” Mamajuana “, and in the category of the best mask, the first place was conquered by the tribe of Taimáscaro ” Aborigine “.
In the category Devils, Puerto Plata won first and third place in the majestic presentation of the “Tribe Yucahú” and “Taimáscaro”. The Carnival parade was stretched at the 1 km Malecon of Santo Domingo last Sunday, with the popular merengue singer Fefita La Grande and television host Michael Miguel Holguin. The parade began at 2:30 pm where more than 200 troupes and characters participated representing all provinces and the National District.
In the end, Dr. Yanco Souffront, took the opportunity to invite all the people of the province of Puerto Plata and other communities of the North Coast, this Sunday, March 13th come and enjoy Grand Parade of Puerto Plata Carnival 2016 which is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the founding of Taimáscaro.
