Puerto Plata receives over 6,000 cruise passangers this week
PUERTO PLATA – This week Puerto Plata received a total of 6,833 passengers and crew, who arrived at the modern Amber Cove terminal built in the Bay of Maimon by Carnival Corporation.
The first cruise ship arrived on Wednesday was the Fathom Adonia with 1,727 tourists plus 389 crew members, making a total of 2 116 visitors.
Also on the same day the Carnival Conquest arrived with 3,573 passengers and 1,144 crew, for a total of 4,717 visitors.
Faced with this reality, there were expected some favorable opinions and constructive criticism to continue preserving local tourism, like in the case of the former governor and former senator from Puerto Plata and the current deputy Ginette Bournigal Jimenez, who described the arrival of tourists to “the Bride of the Atlantic” as excellent and it brings joy to everyone.
The congressman noted that cruise tourism is taking a risk because of the serious problem with the smoke of the municipal landfill and the many activities had to be canceled within the Amber Cove terminal, because of terrible odor coming from the giant opencast garbage tank.
Bournigal Jimenez drew attention to the tourism authorities to undertake urgent remedial action, as this is “the disaster and lack of respect that exists in the Historic Center of Puerto Plata”.
