Public schools to close on Monday but businesses must operate normally

Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta has clarified that the day after the elections, Monday 16 May 2016, will be a normal working day. He made the announcement to quell the rumors that Monday would be declared a holiday.

He confirmed that the time off is only from noon on Saturday, 14 May to 6am on Monday, 16 May.

The Ministry of Education has instructed private schools as well as public schools to close on Monday, 16 May 2016, the day after the elections, when a large number of schools are used as voting stations.

In the announcement made yesterday, Tuesday 10 May, the Ministry instructed all schools to reopen for classes on Tuesday.

Public schools will be closed as of noon Friday, 13 May 2016 in preparation for the elections on Sunday, 15 May.
