Public debt increases US$1.5 billion in first half of the year
The Nonfinancial Public Sector Debt reached US$25,716.2 million in June 2016, as reported in Diario Libre. This is US$1,561.7 million more than in December 2015.
Local government borrowing was up 10.1% and is now at US$8,946.6 million. The foreign debt increased 4.6% for an absolute increase of US$741.1 million. Foreign debt is now US$16,769.6 million.
The foreign debt accounts for 65.2% of the total public debt.
The government took out US$9,568.5 million in bonds, or 10.8% more than in December 2016. During the first six months of the year, the government borrowed US$935.9 million in bonds.
