President Medina receives award for the best financial transaction
On Monday, 18 January 2016, President Danilo Medina was awarded a statuette that recognizes the Dominican Republic for the best financial transaction relating to the management of liabilities in 2015.
The Latin Finance publication granted the award to the Dominican government for the transaction by which it paid off its Petrocaribe debt to Venezuela.
The transaction took place in January 2015 when the country achieved a 52% discount and a saving of more than RD$93,000 million by transferring the debt.
Latin Finance covers the financial markets of Latin America and the Caribbean and has been covering financial stories for more than 25 years and awarding prizes on an annual basis. This is the first time the Dominican government has received an award.
Latin Finance says that the award recognizes the sophisticated nature of the deal that involved international lawyers and complex negotiations over a period of 15 months.
