President inaugurates rum factory in Monte Plata
President Danilo Medina formally opened a rum company in an export free zone in Monte Plata province, east of the capital, yesterday, Thursday 17 March 2016. The Matusalem rum produced at the plant will be exported to Central America, Haiti, Mexico, Caribbean, US, Europe and South America. Alza Investments is responsible for the US$17 million investment in Monte Plata. The factory, which employs some 300 workers, has the capacity to produce one million boxes of rum a year or 24,000 bottles a day.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Jose del Castillo Savinon said that the country has attracted RD$3.8 billion in investment for rum production by free zone manufacturing companies.
