Poland will double its charter flights to Puerto Plata
PUERTO PLATA – Demand of Puerto Plata as a tourist destination is on the rise, as Luis Lopez said, former president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (ASONAHORES). This year for the first time a flight charter from Poland joined the area and plans for next year to double its flights to the DR.
Lopez said that it is happening with visitors from Canada and Germany, countries that announced the increased frequency of flights to Puerto Plata. “We are confident that the coming winter will be better than the previous one, which is already pretty good,” said the businessman.
He said that with these predictions, hoteliers expect Puerto Plata again to grow at a rate of 10%. “I think that should be our goal,” said the president of AMHSA Marina Resorts since supposedly the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia revealed that the tour operator Sunwing send two new flights from Canada to Puerto Plata, for the big interest of Canadians in that destination.
He recalled that during the 2015 Puerto Plata received 392.622 tourists by air, equal to 8,803 visitors from the previous year 2014. Of that total, some 370.600 were not resident in the country, according to statistics of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
In 2015 the country received a significant growth of 7.3% market share in Europe, 12% in US, and impressive numbers from South America. The arrival of tourists from Argentina grew 18%, Colombia 27%, Brazil 24% and Venezuela 51%. DR is remaining the leading source of tourism countries in South America.
