New opportunities open for DR-India
During his visit to Santo Domingo, Ambassador Tsewang Namgyal of India met with Dominican business leaders as part of a new push for more trade by the Indian government yesterday, 14 April 2016.
During a presentation at the India Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, chamber president Jabar Singh and Ambassador Namgyal highlighted that trade is the top priority of the Indian Embassy.
The ambassador is based in Havana, Cuba and is concurrent to the Dominican Republic.

The Embassy also announced a new facility for obtaining visas online and that an Indian business delegation with support from the government of India is preparing to visit in the fall.
Ambassador Namgyal said that more people are aware of Cuba for historical reasons, but as things open up in Cuba there will be more opportunities and it will be easier for the Dominican Republic to do business with Indian companies.
Ambassador Namgyal says this is an opportunity for Dominican businesses to become representation agents for the Dominican Republic and Cuba for Indian companies. Three airlines fly regularly to Havana from the DR n Copa, Cubana and PAWA.
Ambassador Namgyal is not yet accredited in the Dominican Republic because of delays related to the election campaign. He presented his credentials in Havana in December 2015 and expects to do so in the DR once the election is over.
The Indian Embassy is also coordinating the celebration of International Yoga Day in the Dominican Republic on 21 June 2016.
