My husband’s parents only found out I was born a man when we got married
Daliah Husu’s in-laws only found out she was born male when she wrote a book about her experiences
Daliah Husu knew her in-laws had discovered her secret when her phone pinged with notifications. Happily married to Ruben, 25, a stockbroker, she always wondered how his family would react to the news she was born male.
But she needed have worried.
Daliah said: “When I first met them, Ruben and I decided not to tell them. We didn’t feel it was anyone else’s business.
“But they’ve since been on my Linkedin profile a few times this week.
“His father visited my page twice yesterday so it’s no longer a secret!”
Born Luis Miguel Morris in the Dominican Republic, the 36-year-old spa worker was raised by her grandmother in an area crawling with drug dealers.
She said: “We lived in Capotillo where people callously slaughtered their rivals.
“Arguments would spark riots and my grandmother was forever shouting, ‘Get in the house!’ You never knew when something was going to happen.”
Daliah was four when she realised she was different.
Some of her earliest memories are playing dress up with her cousins.
