Museo de la Altagracia invites you to get to know Higuey…in a different way

History, culture and art buffs…this article is for you! In lieu of the 2016 International Museum Day and the General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) being held as we speak in Milan, the Museo de la Altagracia in Higuey is celebrating by offering a couple of cultural routes designed with this year’s theme in mind: Museums and Cultural Landscapes. For just RD$500, you will be able to enjoy a guided walking tour of several of the most iconic sites in Higuey, refreshments, lunch and you will gain incomparable insight into the religious and artistic culture of Salvaleón de Higuey. Ready for adventure? Read on!

ICOM’s theme for this year, Museums and Cultural Landscapes, is a way to encourage museums to be responsible for their landscapes, asking them to contribute knowledge and expertise to the public and take an active role in their management and upkeep. It is well known that the primary mission of museums is to oversee heritage, whether it be inside or outside their walls.

Seeking to commemorate the occasion and show the richness of the area and promote art, culture and traditions, the Museo de la Altagracia’s “Cultural Routes of Salvaleón de Higuey” (“Rutas Culturales de Salvaleón de Higüey”) will be offered up until the month of August. Those who want to embark on this cultural adventure can reserve their tour and pay JUST RD$ 500.00 (!!!) which includes a guided tour, museum entrance fee, refreshments and lunch. Take a look at the route options below:
