Motorcycle registration program stopped for lack of funds
The Tax Agency (DGII) began a nationwide motorcycle registration program in March 2014. Listin Diario reports, however, that the process only lasted 10 months and was suspended due to lack of funds. Some 131,000 motorcycles were regularized.
The DGII has described motorcyclists as “the plague” because most traffic accidents and muggings involve men on motorcycles, a large number of which are not registered.
For only RD$100, owners of unregistered motorcycles could go legal, getting free insurance, motorcycle registration and a reflective vest.
