Medina inaugurates US$45M Sabana de la Mar-Miches road
Miches, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday headed ribbon-cutting for the 40-kilometer Sabana de la Mar-Miches road, part of the Eastern Road Circuit and the final span in the Bavaro-Uvero Alto-Miches-Sabana de la Mar road stretching 112 kilometers.
The 2-lane road built at a cost of US$45 million links the towns La Gina, La Culebra, Las Cañitas and Magua, and features 11 bridges and 131 culverts, said Public Works minister Gozalo Castillo.
He said the “modern road” links La Altagracia, El Seibo and Hato Mayor provinces and fulfills the government’s decades-old promise made to east region towns near resorts.
Castillo said the work to widen the Hato Mayor-Sabana de la Mar will start “very soon,” adding that the ferry from the latter to Samana will also start operating soon.
Medina was accompanied by Marco Cruz, president of the contractor Odebrecht in the Dominican Republic.
