La Romana 12 year old girl dies after fight in public school
Police confirmed that a girl died after holding a fight with another child in a school in La Romana, but so far it is not clear whether the death was caused by blows.
Raysa Nunez, a spokeswoman for Regional Command East enforcement body, referred to a news published by ALMOMENTO.NET reporting the death of the twelve year old girl Elizabeth Severino Morla, which according to relatives was a result of blows she had received from her classmates at a school in Villa San Carlos sector.
She stated that there was certainly a fight and after it the girl felt sick, so she was taken to the public hospital and then to the “Good Samaritan” medical center where she died.
“You can not say yet that it was because of blows; this will be determined by pathological examination, “Nunez said in a telephone conversation with the director of ALMOMENTO.NET, Saul Pimentel, in which she stressed that the other girl involved in fact is even younger than the deceased. She said the possibility that the death occurred due to an illness or medication was not ruled out.
Journalist Victor Borrome said the incident was recorded on Thursday last week and the girl died the next Monday. No one in the school district has issued any statement.
The case comes at a time when national public opinion is shaken by a video circulating on the Internet and in the media where you see two minor engaged in a fight, throwing blows, none of the adults, including a teacher and a school police agent, intervened to separate them.
The Ministry of Education, Carlos Amarante Baret, who is normally very talkative when it comes to politics, has remained tight-lipped about these cases.
Suspends Director and Professor
After the death of the girl, 05-03 District Educational ordered the suspension of the principal of that school, Evelin Mateo, along with a teacher.
Mary Elizabeth Severino Morla was in the sixth grade of elementary school located next to the house where she lived with his parents Ramón Severino y Bélgica Morla, and five brothers.
The remains of the student were buried at 4:00 p.m. yesterday, after an autopsy performed in the regional East National Forensic Pathology Institute (Inacif) in San Pedro de Macoris.
The official, who made an official report on the incident met yesterday with the faculty and school staff, as well as with leaders of Villa San Carlos. Also there was a commission of officials of the Central Anti-Gang Police present.
